I am one whose station is now located in Central
Philippines. This means very little relief to someone who now possesses an admiration
to train a game dog. However, with very little realistic and applied guides to
reinforce those free tips found in cyberspace, I ventured to train my dog
‘Aubree’ into different kinds of athletic exercises intimated in a hunting
pursuit that I picked up in my early days. Not that there is no need for those
reinforcing ideas or functional tools and toys, but that this should somehow
only be used to build-up what has already roused your dog. Hunting pursuit is in fact what really
stimulates a dog’s native instinct contrary to trading it with a variety of
aiding recommendations intended solely for reinforcing obedience. Hence, a trainer
must first establish the mindset of a dog’s stimulus to hunt and then align it to
a pack’s arrangement were the alpha dog must build to enact decorum or
obedience from within its pack. The trainer must adhere to the dog’s native
makeup and structure.
Thus to help induce Aubree with her natural faculties, I had
to support it with an actual wildlife setting that is very accessible to me so
I can do those exercises every day to prep her while interchangeably utilizing
those reinforcing ideas that I pick up in the Net. Not only this, but to
actively condition her reflexes also. This somehow is in consideration that I
only have 3 quarters of an acre of space to work on, hence sparingly cutting short our
workout pace to less or an hour the most; this is in light of an actual hunting
event that takes a day or two. Another outstanding payoff in using tools is
that you are not obligated to jump and run squarely with them, though walking
and taking every effort to being nearby during the hunt achievement is
essential.
As for my wildlife setting, I gravitate more toward keeping
a neat lawn in the center and leaving the birds to sow seeds on my borders to
enfold my area with trees, shrubs and vines. The open space is there to allow
ample room for family and social amusement as well as having an uncovered
ground for my dog’s cardiac workout. But the wildlife, I call ‘table trail’ is
a copycat of an actual byway or a hunting field with occasional rodents that I
lure Aubree to go after without crushing even the smallest reptile so as to
hone her to have a benign retrieving mouth in carrying whatever she is hunting.
I am saying all these to encourage those with the same
inclination for a game dog ‘par excellence’ in whatever sporting event you want
to engage in. This somehow is the reason why I came up with this page entitled
‘Feathers Fur and Fins’ to reiterate the sanity behind this type of training
philosophy, for in any type of sporting event it must always involve the mental
makeup of not only the interest of the handler but also the best interest of
its beloved dog. This tollgate somehow is a far cry to what others are doing in
training its dog.
Feathers Fur and Fins then envision an outfitting community for us who are underprivileged compared to what most first world have that is amassed with licensed hunt fields where one can put the substance of my philosophy in seeking to train one’s game dog to any of those sporty disciplines that we find in all dog competitions.
Now, here’s what I want you to expect, for you to not only receive reasons behind everything I do in my training, lessons I’ve learned, update you when a new insights occurs, and even suggest handy tools not easily available locally. I will also provide links to tools I use so you can purchase them yourself, make handy provision or else make me purchase them for you. All these including a personal access to connect with me for help, for information or if not for recommendation.
Get access to an outfitting community in my facebook group that will enable you to reap a greater benefit that characterizes another vivid display of my training concept where you will be seeing actual photos and videos that would complement this written conveyance.
